6:14 am
he said on the bright side though, they have noticed a decline in thefts and shoplifting, other crimes, and they attribute that to their increased police presence. in burlington, juli mcdonald, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meterologist danielle vollmar. sera: we could see with juli it is a little windy. danielle: even this morning still the wind is around. it is going to back off later today so it will make it feel a little better this afternoon. still kind of cool though. where we should be though this time of year. a cold and sunny sunday on tap. we are turning milder as we head towards the holiday weekend. hey, there is an example of that wind. you can see behind me the camera shaking just a touch. chances for much-needed rain are coming this beak. in fact, almost each and every day except for today and tomorrow we could see some showers. so this morning we're starting out around 27 degrees with our overnight low in worcester. 31 in boston. i have to go back to december 1
6:15 am
our average low temperature though in boston is 267 so we're actually running well above where we should be even though it feels a lot colder. that's because we've been so spoiled this month. 34 degrees right now in boston. it's 28 in worcester. upper 30's on nantucket. you factor in those winds. they're gusting upwards of about 32 miles per hour now on nantucket. most of these wind gusts are actually starting to finally back down. so as they do, that should help outside. now as we go through the afternoon, that westerly breeze dies down especially as we head towards this evening. it starts to turn to the south and west. that is actually going to to be a warming wind so for today, upper 30's through the merrimack valley. low 40's along the south shore, the cape and the islands. about 5-15. tonight dropping back into the hills. the merrimack valley. 30's in boston and 30's down along the south shore and the cape.
6:16 am
now this morning there have been a couple of flurries around. you folks maybe in provincetown might see a couple of flurries also out in western mass. most of them though beginning to shut off at this hour. and the big story today is high pressure dominating, giving us a lot of sunshine today. and also backing off those winds just a touch. and then we watch this warm front here and this area of low pressure you see. this is going to bring us our next chance for some rain and also mild temperatures so tomorrow we're going to warm up into the upper 40's in worcester , low to mid 50's in boston and points south and east. and notice those winds will be gusty out of the south and west at about 10-20 miles an hour. i do think there may even be a wind advisory issue for southeastern mass because those winds are going to be very strong. however, they're strong but they're also mild bringing in milder air. they're associated with this warm front so this warm front brings clouds into our forecast tomorrow. it's a mostly cloudy day.
6:17 am
the showers go well off into northern new england. so we're breezy and we're mild and we're mostly cloudy. now we'll head into tuesday. tuesday we start off cloudy and still mild out there, but this cold front swings through. i think through the afternoon and evening notice there are showers on the map. we're going to leave showers in the forecast through the evening hours and then more of them start to ramp up as we head towards wednesday and even thursday looks like it could be a showery day. this is christmas eve, remember. we could be near record warmth. boston's record is 61 set back in 1996. also 57 in worcester. i'm going for a high of 63 so if that happens, we're going to break some records. christmas day not looking so bad either. lots of sunshine and 54. doug and sera. sera: thanks, danielle. more stories happening right now. doug: police are investigating what sparked this fiery scene in hurst, texas. this was the aftermath of a fuel truck explosion. burning fuel ran down both sides of the highway saturday and into

"the force awakens" already took in a record-breaking $120.5 million for opening day on friday and $250 million globally. that number blasted the previous record held by the final harry potter movie. the film is playing in over 4,000 theaters in the u.s., the widest december release ever. disney projects the movie will
6:19 am
the weekend. sera: it deserves itment. doug: how much money did they get from you? sera: they're still getting money from me. star wars fans in china will now have to wait until next month to see "the force awakens." the reason is unclear, but china's government has chosen to hold the release date until 2016. some have speculated the nation may have already filled their foreign film quota for the year, pushing the star wars release into next year. the film hits chinese theaters january 9. >> now sportscenter 5 with bob halloran. bob: well, there's snow white christmas for us here in new england this year. tom brady who was sleepy, grumpy, and maybe dopey on friday is happy today. and so is never bashful rob gronkowski. both guys will play against the titans. julian edelman-- still needing to confer with a doc-- will miss his fifth straight game. santa is not is only one with a lot of sacks this year.
6:20 am
that is second behind denver. their sacks three fewer than the bills and dolphins combined. it puts the patriots on the pace for 52 which would be more than any other bill belichick team in the entire history of bill belichick. here's bill belichick. coach: honestly, i don't even pay that much attention to them. i'm happy when they hit the quarterback. i'm happy when we tap him. don't get me wrong. that's all part of it, you know. when we score a touchdown, that's great. and the guy who scored it. that's great. but there are a lot of other components that lead to that as i don't think you want to bob: we'll have highlights and sportscenter 5 o.t. have a great day. sera: methuen first responders with a special mission this weekend. they headed to lawrence saturday after collecting hundreds of toys for children in need. volunteers helping unload the loot. helped out debbie's treasure

come on in pop pop. happy birthday. t i just had a heart attack... and now i have a choice. for her. for them. and him. a choice to take brilinta. a prescription for people who've been hospitalized for a heart attack. i take brilinta with a baby aspirin ...no more than 100 mg. as it affects how well it works. it's such an important thing to do to help protect against another heart attack. brilinta worked better than plavix. and even reduced the chances of dying from another one. don't stop taking brilinta without talking to doctor. since stopping it too soon increases your risk of clots in your stent, heart attack, stroke, and even death. brilinta may cause bruising or bleeding more easily or serious, sometimes fatal bleeding. don't take brilinta if you have bleeding, like stomach ulcers. a history of bleeding in the brain, or severe liver problems. tell your doctor about bleeding, new or unexpected shortness of breath, any planned surgery and all medicines you take. i will take brilinta today. tomorrow. p and every day for as long as my doctor tells me.
